Life Sciences comprise of all sciences that have to do with 'organisms', like plants, animals and human beings. No doubt, ancient Indian sciences were rich in this field as well. Let us explore this field through our active discussions and Please do suggest if we need to add any more braches to the existing list.

Was ancient society aware of life sciences. The answer is yes.
However, we shall consider here only Biology supposed to be the science of the 20th Century.
Agastya was famous in Rigveda for his scientific contribution. But there is no indication of his knowledge of Biology therein.
He was imparted the knowledge of Lalitha Sahasra nama by Hayagriva. That Lord Vishu should be so addressed is itself significant. We shall consider this matter some other time.
In his introduction to Lalitha Sahasranama Agaastya says that there was a great assemblage of Gods, men and other life forms including Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. For each life form assembled there was a Lalitha Ambika present. Rememeber, each God is only a luminary. This was the first indication of knowledge of Biology.
Expanding this indication further, Sage Markandaya in Devi Mahatmayam says that before Devi went to fight Asuras she was bestowed the special powers that the Devas had. The Devas as we said are luminaries such as Atoms (Lord Indra) and other particles reffered in modern science. In other words the particle and Atomic energy is converted to Biological energy in all the biological forms we see in nature, incessasantly fighting our battle of survival. They know more about us than we do!
In modern science, this basic structure is called A CELL.
One characteristic feature of this CELL is that it reproduces itself in large quantities. This Cell plays a
vital part in our life. There are literally trillions of cells inside our body. They know more about us than what
we do. They protect us against all inimical forces that threaten our well being. Everday there are billions of CELLS born (function of Sararswati) billions more that sustain thjemselves (the fuinction of Laxmi) and there are billions more that get destroyed in the constant battle that is raging inside us, for survival (The function of UMA).
